Filmora’s Free App Could Help You Get More From Your Videos

Filmora, the popular video editing app and desktop software used by nearly 4 million people, is about to get a little bit sweeter. Today developer Wondershare announced the latest version of the Filmora App, along with a special effects store.

Filmora is a free video editor, but unlike many free editing apps, it doesn’t add a watermark or limit the length of the videos. Filmora has a range of one-click effects (think Instagram filters for video), as well as more advanced edits like reverse video, trimming, and rotating. The latest update also adds slow motion.

Filmora is designed for Amateurs and Semi-pros, according to the developer. Along with a collection of one-click effects, Filmora includes an integrated library of licensed music. Overlays, text, and graphics are also included with the platform.

Along with updating the app, the options for filters, transitions, overlays, music, and titles just got quite a bit wider with the new Filmora Effects Store, which includes both free and paid effects. From adding lens flares to upbeat transitions, the effects store is designed to open up the software’s capabilities in both the desktop and mobile versions.

“We are excited to announce the launch of the Filmora Effects Store and updated versions of its desktop software and IOS and ANDROID mobile apps,” said Filmora senior marketing manager Cole Vineyard. “We have listened to what our users have been telling us and we are can’t wait for our users to try out all of the new improvements and features now available.”

Filmora is free for both mobile and desktop version, with in-app purchases for additional effects.

Line Takes On Snapchat and Facebook With Selfie App Launch

Japanese messaging app Line has launched egg, a selfie app that layers on 3D masks to photos and videos.

Much like the filters on Snapchat and the now Facebook-owned MSQRD, the app recognises a person’s face and the movements of the face, allowing the filters to change based off the movements of the face.

Line has partnered with Warner Bros on its upcoming DC Comics release Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, launching with a special filter for the film.

Line also plans to integrate its own popular characters into the app, including the Line character Choco. The app also lets people swap faces with one another and upload their own pictures, a feature that’s proven popular on rival apps.

Both Snapchat and Facebook have been on spending sprees of late, with Snapchat buying Bitmoji not long after Facebook bought MSQRD, but Line’s strategy has historically been to build its own versions of apps, rather than buy the technology in.

Earlier this year Line launched an app specifically to tap into foodie trends, helping people take and share the best pictures of their food. The app is aptly titled ‘Foodie’.

5 Ways You Might Be Sharing Your Location Without Knowing It

Just about every smart phone out there, except for a few dinosaurs used by a grandparent or two, has GPS-based location services built into them.
Our cell phones can pinpoint our locations, record and track our location history, and relay location data to apps for many different purposes. Some of the ways our location information is shared is obvious to us, but sometimes we may not even realize that we are providing this information.
Let's Look at 5 Ways That You Might be Sharing Your Location Information Without Even Realizing It.

1. Geotagged Pictures
When you first set up your phone, your camera app probably asked if it was ok to record the location of the pictures you took with the app, you probably said yes and moved on. The setting was made and ever since then, the camera app has been recording your GPS location in the metadata of the pictures you take.
We often forget that this data is recorded because it doesn't actually show up in the picture itself, but is part of the picture file in the form of metadata that can be read and extracted by apps such as Facebook to help with location tagging and other features that rely on geotags.
You can also view this data with a EXIF metadata reader app (bad guys can do this as well.

2. Facebook
Facebook has many features that leverage location data to make them work. One of the newer features called "Nearby Friends" can relay your location to your friends to help them locate you when you're out and about in the real world. You can choose to share your location with someone for an hour, a day, or even indefinitely.
Facebook also may share your location when you tag yourself at different places, such as in a status update or a photo tag. When others tag you in a post, they could inadvertently be giving out, not only their location, but yours as well. This could be dangerous depending on the audience of the post. You might not want everyone in the world to know that you are with a friend on vacation as thieves might use this knowledge to their advantage and come rob your home while you are away.

3. Twitter
Depending on how you set up your twitter account, there is a chance you could be tweeting your location when you post a tweet. If you ever used the Tweet location feature in the past, then subsequent tweets you made could still be relaying your location, unless you shut the feature off. Learn more about this in the Twitter FAQ On Sharing Your Location With Your Tweets.

4. iMessage and Other Messaging Apps
Message apps such as iMessage might also be relaying your location when you send a message. It's possible that if someone got a hold of your phone without you knowing it, they could have added themselves to the share location feature and set it to "share indefinitely" thus putting you on a digital leash, allowing them to know your location full time.
You can check to see if you are sharing your location with anyone by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Share My Location and reviewing the list of contacts you are sharing your location with.

5. Dating Apps
Dating apps such as OK Cupid, Tinder, and Plenty of Fish rely on location information in order to help find matches in your local area. Some of these apps may even provide frequent or near real-time location updates. This could be risky, consider turning off location services for these apps unless you are willing to accept the potential risks.

High-risk Breast Cancer could be blocked via an "unlikely drug" -Jacqueline Howard, CNN

Scientists might have just pinpointed a nonsurgical way for women at a high risk of breast cancer to minimize their chances of developing the devastating disease.

About 12% of all women across the United States will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the National Cancer Institute. However, about 65% of women with a mutation in the breast cancer gene BRCA1 will develop breast cancer by age 70.

Women with the mutated gene have very few options to minimize that risk. Most, including actress Angelina Jolie, resort to a mastectomy as a preventive measure.

But a new study, published in the journal Nature Medicine on Monday, suggests that a drug already on the market to treat osteoporosis could be another option in the fight against breast cancer.

The research shows that the drug, denosumab, can stop certain breast tissue cells with the mutation from morphing into cancerous tumors, said Jane Visvader, a scientist at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Australia and a co-author of the study.

Skyrocketing Your Success: 5 Lessons From Millionaire Entrepreneurs - David K. Williams

When you’re looking for an idea for a business, there is never a shortage of people eager to impart their ideas. In fact, as soon as entrepreneurs announce we’re pursuing an entrepreneurial endeavor, friends come out of the woodwork to offer perspective, parents insist on weighing in, and we’re deluged with unsolicited offers from investors and business consultants and marketers.

Anyone in the business world offering help is going to charge for their services, and while it’s always nice to hear from our friends and family, they generally aren’t experts themselves.

Fortunately, there is free expertise available that is ours for the taking, from the very public millionaire entrepreneurs who have made many millions of dollars selling products that have impacted millions of lives. Not all millionaires are in the public eye, of course; the “private” ones enjoy their success without fanfare. But we should carefully study and emulate the ones in the public eye who have openly shared their wisdom, for they offer our best shot at skyrocketing success of our own.

In this article, we’ll explore the most important words of advice from millionaire entrepreneurs. Their collective wisdom for skyrocketing to success can be summed up in five major lessons:

Be relentlessly passionate about your business - Entrepreneurs who are truly passionate believe their idea for a product or service is the best thing since sliced bread. They believe so strongly in their idea they are eager to pour limitless time, energy and resources into their endeavor, even at the cost of living a “normal” life. They eat, sleep, and breathe their idea, and they sacrifice precious family and social time to develop and promote it. Walt Disney is a prime example of unwavering passion for his animation business. He started his entertainment empire with just a cartoon mouse and a dream. “When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably,” Disney said. Similarly, Nick Woodman, the founder and CEO of GoPro cameras who became a billionaire at age 36, said he found success only after founding a business that truly accentuated his passion. Woodman, in fact, had two businesses prior to founding GoPro, but neither were related to his passion for surfing, and both were failures. Then, while surfing, he recalled longing for a camera that could film the moment from his perspective, and the idea for GoPro was born. “As soon as I stopped trying to think about a business idea and started focusing on what I’m passionate about, that’s when it came to me,” he recalled.

You need more than a dream; you need perseverance - A successful entrepreneur must never lose his or her dream, but a dream in and of itself will not translate to success without perseverance. In fact, perseverance is passion in action, the “grit” that gets us over life’s hurdles and obstacles. It is the trait that pushes people through failures and challenges – both the little, day-to-day walls that stand in the way of the business they are trying to launch or grow, and the colossally big ones that threaten the core of the business. Perseverance ensures we understand that giving up is never an option. Perhaps the most classic example of perseverance is Thomas Edison. When asked how it felt to fail 1,000 times before inventing a viable electric light bulb, Edison famously replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.” What Edison was trying to convey is that every magnanimous accomplishment requires incredible perseverance and determination. Similarly, Apple founder Steve Jobs extolled the importance of perseverance, saying this quality is one of the most influential in determining who emerges on top. “I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance,” Jobs said.

How To Subscribe To GLO 2GB, 6GB, 10GB, 12GB, 18GB, 24GB, 48GB

RECALLING!!!!!
I will call this data war. All the four networks we know has revisited their data plans. It's been back to back from Mtn to Etisalat, Airtel to Glo. But i can see Glo leading with amazing data deal which i think many will port to. But the problem people are now talking about is their poor network and coverage. Slow in browsing and slow download speed. That's what is pushing people back from using Glo. Though there are good coverage in some locations. All things being considered, you just have to test their network strength in your area before dashing your money to Glo.

Glo Data Plans, Price, And Validity Period
1. N1000 = 2GB valid for 30 days
2. N2000 = 6GB valid for 30 days
3. N2500 = 10GB valid for 30 days
4. N3000 = 12GB valid for 30 days
5. N4000 = 18GB valid for 30 days
6. N5000 = 24GB valid for 30 days
7. N8000 = 48GB valid for 30 days
Can you see how cheap the plans are? And they are all valid for 30days. Far better than what they offered before even better than what other telcos are offering currently. Like i said earlier, make sure their 3G is ok in your area before wasting your money on data you can't enjoy.

POVERTY BITING HARDER: INFLATION RATE INCREASES TO 15.6%

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in the Consumer Price Index report which was released on Tuesday explained that the rate of inflation rose by 1.9 percentage points from 13.7 per cent in April to 15.6 per cent in May.

The last time Nigeria recorded an inflation rate as high as the 15.6 percent recorded in May this year was in the month of September 2009 when the rate of inflation was put at 15.86 per cent by the NBS.

"Since then, we have been experiencing
a downward trend in the rate of inflation
before a sudden resurgence within the last five months".

The NBS said the increase in inflation rate in May when compared to what was recorded in April is an indication of an overall rise in general price level across the economy as all divisions which contributed to the Headline index growing at a faster pace.

The report reads in part. “In May, the Consumer Price Index which measures inflation recorded a relatively strong increase for the fourth consecutive month.

“The Headline index increased by 15.6 per cent year-on-year, 1.9 per cent points higher from rates recorded in April 13.7 per cent.

“Year on year, electricity rates as well as other energy prices continue to manifest as key drivers of the core component of the CPI.

“During the month, the highest increases were seen in the passenger transport by road, liquid fuel (Kerosene), fuel and lubricants for personal transport equipment (premium motor spirit) and vehicle spare parts groups.”

The NBS also said imported foods as well as a drawdown of inventories across the country continue to push food prices higher.

LinkedIn Sold for $26.2bn, Microsoft

You probably didn't expect your week to start this way: Microsoft has acquired LinkedIn for $26.2 billion. The company plans to integrate the career-oriented social network into many of its apps and services, including Office, Skype andCortana. You'd get the details of the person you're meeting for a business deal, for example, or get help from an expert when you're working on an Office 365project. Microsoft is vowing to maintain LinkedIn's overall independence, including the role of CEO Jeff Weiner, and hopes to close the deal sometime in 2016.

According to Microsoft's Satya Nadella, LinkedIn is a perfect fit. You need a "connected professional world" to get things done, he says, whether it's getting help with a spreadsheet or fleshing out details in a customer relations tool like Microsoft's Dynamics. And while Microsoft is purposefully keeping itself at arm's length, Nadella sees the potential for revenue through subscriptions and (like it or not) targeted ads.

Suffice it to say that this is a huge move for Microsoft. It's entering the social networking world in a big way -- while LinkedIn isn't direct competition for Facebook or Twitter, its 433 million members are nothing to sneeze at. The acquisition is also proof positive that Microsoft under Nadella is reducing its dependence on Windows and putting more of an emphasis on cloud services. This is as much about acknowledging a changing computing landscape, where Windows doesn't necessarily dominate, as it is a bid to become a crucial service provider.

A founder of a $100 million business shares his best advice on finding success as a entrepreneur

For Jeff Chapin, bringing ideas to life is what makes him tick and excites him.

“I get pride in seeing people creating great stuff whatever their area is,” he says.

As the former designer at famed innovation firm IDEO, Chapin definitely got to see his fair share of dreams turn into reality.

Yet, after having worked on big projects, Chapin was ready to tackle his own passion project: turning the mattress industry on its head.

“There’s a big issue in society that people only get a few hours of sleep a night, which can have huge life and productivity impact,” he says.

“It’s a huge potential business opportunity to create a market in that realm.”

Chapin did just that. He, along with four others, saw an opportunity to disrupt the mattress industry after witnessing customers continually overwhelmed by the multiple mattress options, lack of customer service and complicated return policies.

So, in 2014 the small team launched New York City-based Casper, an ecommerce mattress startup focused on creating a streamlined and simplified experience through an “all size fits all” mattress and a seamless return policy. In doing so, the Casper team seized the chance to disrupt the $14 billion mattress industry.

“The opportunity we saw was just to try to help people sleep better and change how they balance sleep with the rest of the decisions in their life,” Chapin says. “Being underslept in New York City, seeing focused companies tackle industries and the success they were having, combined with our past experience got us excited to give it a shot.”

Now, after recently surpassing $100 million in business, the company has gone from a staff of five to 150 employees in less than three years. It has expanded to include sheets and pillows, while also currently experimenting with more products focusing on the practice of sleeping overall.

Now looking at the long-term game, idea-man Chapin is excited by the myriad of possibilities Casper aims to explore as it works to go international.

To understand what made this entrepreneur tick and his keys to success and growth, we caught up with Chapin and asked him 20 questions:

Breaking News - Gunman killed 50, 53 wounded

An American-born man who'd pledged allegiance to ISIS gunned down 50 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando -- the deadliest mass shooting in the United States and the nation's worst terror attack since 911, authorities said Sunday.

* The gunman was Omar Mateen of Fort Pierce, Florida, a law enforcement source told CNN.

* Mateen called 911 around the time of the attack to pledge allegiance to ISIS and mentioned the Boston bombers, according to a U.S. official.

* Orlando police shot and killed Mateen.

Mateen carried an assault rifle and a pistol into the packed Pulse club about 2 a.m. Friday and started shooting, killing 50 people and wounding at least 53, police said. After a standoff of about three hours, police crashed into the building with an armored vehicle and killed Mateen.

"It appears he was organized and well-prepared," Orlando Police Chief John Mina said early Sunday. Authorities have not described finding any accomplices.

The Top 10 Social Networking Sites People Are Using And While

The world's most popular social networking sites certainly have changed over the years, and they'll undoubtedly continue to change as time moves forward. Old social networks will die, popular ones will stick around as they're forced to evolve, and brand new ones will appear.

We've moved on from the days of MySpace to a social media era now dominated by Facebook and all sorts of other social mobile apps. A lot of kids even admit to using Snapchat the most, suggesting that it could be the future of where social networking is headed.

So, what's everyone using right now? Have a look through the updated roundup of social networks below to see which ones are currently the trendiest.

Facebook

Most of us already know that Facebook is the top social network on the web. It's a thriving beast of a social networking site on the web with over 1.59 billions monthly active users as of December 2015 and over one billion that log on daily (according to Facebook itself). Statista shows that Facebook Messenger is also the second most popular messaging app behind WhatsApp. After failing to acquire Snapchat in 2013, Facebook acquired WhatsApp in 2014 so that it could be the one that was one top of instant messaging.

Twitter

Twitter is known as the real-time, public microblogging network where news breaks first. Most users loved it for its iconic 140-character limit and unfiltered feed that showed them absolutely everything. Twitter has changed dramatically over the years, and today it's criticized a lot for going the way of looking and functioning almost exactly like Facebook. Besides Twitter Card integration, which now makes it easy to share all sorts of multimedia content in tweets, you can expect to see algorithmic timelines coming to Twitter soon as well.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a social network for professionals. Anyone who needs to make connections to advance their careers should be on LinkedIn. Profiles are designed to look sort of like extremely detailed resumes, with sections for work experience, education, volunteer work, certifications, awards and all sorts of other relevant works related information. Users can promote themselves and their businesses by making connections with other professionals, interacting in group discussions, posting job ads, applying to jobs, publishing articles to LinkedIn pulse and so much more.

Google+

Making its debut in the early summer of 2011, Google+ became the fastest growing social network the web has ever seen. After failing a couple times already with Google Buzz and Google Wave, the search giant finally succeeded at creating something that stuck... kind of. Nobody really needed another Facebook clone, so Google+ had always been widely criticized for being a social network that nobody really used. In late 2015, a brand new Google+ was rolled out to put more emphasis on its Communities and Collections features to help differentiate the platform a bit more and give existing users more of what they wanted.

YouTube

Where does everyone go to watch or share video content online? It's obviously YouTube. After Google, YouTube is the second largest search engine. Despite being owned by Google, YouTube can still be recognized as a separate social network all on its own as the premiere place online to go to watch videos on every topic under the sun and upload your own as well. From music videos and movies, to personal vlogs and independent films, YouTube has it all. YouTube recently launched a premium subscription option, called YouTube Red, which removes all advertisements from videos.

Instagram

Instagram has grown to be one of the most popular social networks for photo sharing that the mobile web has ever seen. It's the ultimate social network for sharing real-time photos and short videos while on the go. Now it's even a leading advertising platform for brands too. The app had initially just been available for the iOS platform for quite some time as it grew in popularity, but has since expanded to Android and, Windows Phone also the web. Instagram was bought for a hefty $1 billion by Facebook in 2012.

Pinterest

Pinterest has become a major player both in social networking and in the search world, proving just how important visual content has become on the web. As the fastest standalone site ever to reach 10 million monthly unique visits, Pinterest's beautiful and intuitive pinboard-style platform is one of the most enticing and useful resource for collecting the best images that can be categorized into separate boards. Pinterest is also growing to become a huge influencer in social shopping, now featuring "Buy" buttons right on pins of products sold by some retailers.

Tumblr

Tumblr is an extremely popular social blogging platform that's heavily used by teens and young adults. Like Pinterest, it's best known for sharing visual content. Users can customize their blog theme, create blog posts in all sorts of different types of content formats, follow other users to see content in their dashboard feed and be followed back. Reblogging and liking posts is a popular way to interact. If you post great content, you could end up with thousands of reblogs and likes depending on how far it gets pushed out into the Tumblr community.

Vine

Vine is a mobile video sharing app owned by Twitter, and boy is it ever entertaining! If you don't have the attention span to watch a full YouTube video, then you'll love Vine. One of the most convenient things about Vine is that its videos can be directly embedded inline on Twitter when shared through a tweet. They can also be embedded on a website. Videos play on autoloop and are limited to a maximum of six seconds, but that doesn't stop it from being such a powerful social network. Several Vine stars have mastered the art of creating entertaining Vine videos, and many prefer it over Instagram video.

Snapchat

Snapchat is a social networking app that thrives on instant messaging and is totally mobile-based. It's one of the fastest growing apps out there, building its popularity on the idea of self-destructing "snaps." You can send a photo or short video as a message (a snap) to a friend, which automatically disappears a few seconds after they've viewed it. Kids love this app because it takes the pressure off of having to share something with everyone like they would on traditional social networks.  If you're unfamiliar, check out this step-by-step tutorial on how to use Snapchat. Snapchat also has a unique feature called Stories, which allows users to share snaps publicly when they want.

THE BEST GRAPHICS CARD By Jarred Walton

The CPU may be the brain of your PC, but when it comes to gaming, the graphics card is the beating heart that pumps pixels out of your obelisk of a tower and into your monitor. A graphics card consists of dedicated video memory and a graphics processing unit (GPU) that handles all sorts of calculations, like mapping textures and rendering millions of polygons. Simply put, the graphics card is the most vital component of your gaming PC. And these are the ones worthy of your next PC, whether it's a savvy middle-of-the-road build, a budget rig, or a 4K monster.

Earlier this year, Nvidia unveiled their upcoming GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 cards, along with providing release dates: May 27 and June 10, respectively. We've now posted our full review of the GTX 1080, and the cards are available at retail...sort of. They keep going out of stock at all the major resellers, and they're mostly the $700/£619 Founders Edition; other places have inflated prices of $900/£650 or more. Meanwhile, we just reviewed the GTX 1070, and the card launched to a similar state of affairs on June 10, selling out more or less immediately—unless you want to pay the early adopter price premium. Like the GTX 1080, all the initial 1070 cards are Founders Edition models priced at $450/£399, with custom cards on the way.

Considering these Founders Edition cards... Learn More.

Security researcher: Anyone can see links you share using Facebook Messenger

A quirk in Facebook's developer tools lets anyone randomly see links others have shared using Facebook Messenger. But don't hold your breath for Facebook to issue a fix.

When you use a messaging service like Facebook Messenger, you have a reasonable expectation that what you say is private and secure. But due to a quirk in how Facebook handles certain pieces of information, just about anyone who knows how to use Facebook’s developer API can view links that others have sent over Facebook Messenger.

In a post published to Medium, security researcher Inti De Ceukelaire explains how this works. Without getting too technical, every link you share—as well as just about anything else that’s ever been shared to Facebook—has an identification number of sorts assigned to it. As De Ceukelaire notes, “there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this. At least when this data is kept secret.”

De Ceukelaire tested to see if he could search for items by these identification numbers using the Facebook API developer tools. And while he got “access denied” errors in most cases, he discovered that he could access links shared on Facebook this way.

Why your next iPhone could have Intel inside

Apple may use Intel modems in some upcoming phones, diversifying its suppliers...

Intel has missed out on the iPhone party until now, ceding big business to other chip makers in the process. But that could be about to change.

Apple will use modems from Intel in some models of its next smartphone, replacing chips from Qualcomm, according a Bloomberg report Friday. An Intel modem will go into iPhones for the AT&T Wireless network in the U.S. and in some international versions, the report says.

If true, it would be a big win for Intel, especially after its decision to cancel its upcoming Atom chips for phones. Intel has kept its modem business alive, in part because it hopes to capitalize on the upcoming move to 5G networks.

Chips from Qualcomm will still be used in iPhones for the Verizon Wireless network and in handsets sold in China, according to Bloomberg, which cited unnamed sources. Qualcomm supplies all the main modem components for iPhones sold today.

The next iPhone, expected to be called the iPhone 7, is due this fall.

Payment of $1.7bn fine by MTN, Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC)

The Johannesburg-based company said in a statement that "MTN Nigeria has agreed to pay a total cash amount of naira 330 billion over three years."

Africa´s biggest mobile-phone operator was fined $3.9 billion last year and has since been in negotiations with the Nigerian government to reduce the size of the penalty.

The company was hit with the huge fine amid fears that some of the 5.1 million affected lines were being used by Boko Haram insurgents.

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the west African country´s telecoms regulator, confirmed that following six months of talks, the MTN fine had been reduced.

It said in a statement that its decision to reduce the fine was based on "professionalism and global best interest."

"We were careful not to take decisions that were likely to cripple the business interest of the operators we regulate," said the commission´s executive vice chairman Umar Danbatta.

"Besides, the downturn of the global economy is biting hard on everybody and every sector, so we must therefore be sensitive and flexible in our decisions," he said in the statement.

After MTN´s announcement, its shares on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange rose as much as 21 percent, on track for the biggest gain since 2008, according to Bloomberg News.

The country´s telecoms regulator had handed down the fine last year citing an inability to trace users in a country plagued by frequent kidnappings and Boko Haram militants.

The sum was originally set at $5.2 billion before being to lowered to $3.9 billion on appeal.

"MTN is pleased to inform shareholders that the matter has been resolved with the Federal Government of Nigeria," the company statement said.

MTN executive chairman Phuthuma Nhleko "expresses his thanks and gratitude to (the Nigerian government) for the spirit in which the matter was resolved," it added.

MTN paid one instalment in February and has scheduled six other payments to cover the fine by May 2019.

"The news is a huge relief to investors, given the fact that Nigeria ended up not imposing the initial amount of the fine," Dobek Pater, telecoms specialist at the Africa Analysis consultancy, told AFP.

"MTN could not afford to lose a major market such as Nigeria and by paying the fine it shows that they still have faith in keeping their investment there."

As part of the deal has undertaken to "tender an apology" to the government and people of Nigeria over the matter, according to the NCC.

It also promised to "take immediate steps steps to ensure the listing of its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange as soon as commercially and legally possible," said the NCC.

The Boko Haram violence has left at least 17,000 dead and forced more than 2.6 million people from their homes since 2009.

The MTN fine dominated South Africa´s President Jacob Zuma visit to Nigeria earlier this year.

Commenting on the MTN penalty, President Muhammadu Buhari had in March said his government was more concerned about national security than the fine.

"You know how the unregistered GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) are being used by terrorists.

NHS memo details Google/DeepMind’s five year plan to bring AI to healthcare

More details have emerged about the sweeping scope of Google/DeepMind’s ambitions for pushing its algorithmic fingers deep into the healthcare sector — including wanting to apply machine learning processing to UK NHS data within five years.

New Scientist has obtained a Memorandum of Understanding between DeepMind and the Royal Free NHS Trust in London, which describes what the pair envisage as a “broad ranging, mutually beneficial partnership, engaging in high levels of collaborative activity and maximizing the potential to work on genuinely innovative and transformational projects”.

Envisaged benefits of the collaboration include improvements in clinical outcomes, patient safety and cost reductions — the latter being a huge ongoing pressure-point for the free-at-the-point-of-use NHS as demand for its services continues to rise yet government austerity cuts bite into public sector budgets.

SoftTech VC goes big, raising $150 million across two new funds.

Back in January, we told you that SoftTech VC, a San Francisco-based seed-stage fund founded 11 years ago by investor Jeff Clavier, had promoted two of its senior investors to full partners: Andy McLoughlin and Stephanie Palmeri. The move seemed geared to bolster the firm during a time when it was out seeking more capital from its own investors.

Fast forward to today, and SoftTech is announcing that it has raised $100 million for its fifth and newest seed-stage fund. The firm has also gathered up another $50 million in capital commitments for a “breakout” fund that it will use expressly to invest in between 12 to 15 deals involving its successful portfolio companies. (Palmeri notes that the firm will never lead these deals but rather join them as follow-on investors.)...

Reason Why Nigerians Dont Shop Online (The Real Reason)

Why do Nigerians harp so much about the few risks they take when shopping online but totally ignore the many risks they take when shopping at local markets, shopping malls, or supermarkets? Why do Nigerians believe that face to face transactions can save them from fraud when there are no empirical data to support such believe?

More fraud is committed in this country via face to face transactions than online. I am sure you have heard stories of fraudsters who rent out the same flat to dozens of people, collecting millions of Naira in rent only to leave the helpless accommodation seekers to fight each other over who the rightful owner of the flat should be.

Such transaction occur face to face sometimes in the presence of lawyers, yet fraud occurs.

Haven taken a look at the shopping behaviour of Nigerians, I think I now know the real reason why Nigerians are apprehensive about shopping online, because it is definitely not about the risks. Before I share the reason I will like to lay some foundation.

The Double Standard

Everyday people lose money doing business at local markets, yet they return to the same market without batting an eyelid. A similar experience with an online store means all online stores are fraudulent and neither they nor anyone they know will ever shop online again.

Have you ever bought a phone (or any item) in a market only for you to return it to the seller because it developed a minor fault or didn’t just live up to the marketing and you simply can’t locate the seller? And sometimes when you do, your attention is drawn to the part of the receipt that says No refund of money after payment, while the seller tells you how it is not his fault since he is not inside the phone and hence cannot be held responsible for your misfortune.

Have this stopped you from going to the market to buy stuff? I bet not. You probably learnt from your mistake and soldiered on. So, has millions of Nigerians who have faced one form of misfortune or another while shopping offline. Be it entering a one-chance-bus, or getting conned by 419ers in a cab, or falling victim to pick-pockets, or being deceived by a trader into buying a fake product, we accepted the misfortune and continued shopping in the same local markets.

Yet, when such misfortune occurs online, it is often too much for us bear. We use it as an excuse never to shop online again and we tell the story each time anyone around us expresses interest in shopping online. Why do Nigerians hold online shopping to a higher standard? Why is it so easy for Nigerians to soldier on after an offline shopping misfortune but find it too hard to bear when it occurs online?

We Dont Shop Online because it is New to us

This has made me to conclude that the real reason why Nigerians do not shop online is not because of the risks, but because it has been wired into our consciousness that shopping offline is the only (or natural) way to shop. Visiting the market or supermarket to shop has always been the way we have shopped.

So, no matter the amount of risk we face while shopping at physical locations, we still go back because it is a necessity. It is either we shop offline or we die. We have accepted the risks as necessary to our survival. Shopping at a physical location is so hard-wired into our system that we now do it without thinking about the risks.

On the other hand, we complain so much about online shopping, because we are not used to it. We still see it as a luxury and we think we can do without it. So, although online shopping is safer than going to a physical location to shop our bias against it has not allowed it to thrive.

This is why players in the ecommerce industry should focus on making online shopping a culture rather than holding on to the old cliche believes on why Nigerians don’t shop online like poverty and poor infrastructure. Those reasons though valid do not carry weight anywhere near what can be achieved by making online shopping an acceptable way to shop for Nigerians. Once people get used to something, they ignore the risks and see it as part of their daily lives.

Think only the rich shop online? With as low as 100 Naira, you can buy airtime online at quickteller. You can also order food online at hellofood. If you are ready for general online shopping head toJumia or Konga, they are Nigeria’s leading online retailers.

Ginkgo Bioworks grabs $100 million to buy a whole lot of synthetic DNA

The startup plans to use the millions of genetic base pairs to test its production metal in new areas such as “commodity chemicals, industrial enzymes, and human health markets.”

Ginko Bioworks, the Boston-based biotech startup making all sorts of scents and flavors from microbugs, has pulled in $100 million in Series C funding to obtain 600 million base pairs of manufactured DNA – or what Ginkgo claims is the “largest amount of synthetic DNA ever purchased.”

The new infusion is all cash and brings the total up to $154 million in funding since Ginkgo launched out of Y Combinator less than two years ago — putting it in the top 10 most significant amounts of financing for any YC startup.

This new form of biotech (read – not pharmaceutical manufacturing) started heating up in 2014, as production costs dramatically dropped and Ginkgo was one of YC’s first biotech startup investments and still faces few competitors, including West Coast counterpart Zymergen, which has raised $45 million to date, to mass produce consumer materials by manipulating microbial DNA.

The money in this round comes from YC’s Continuity Fund, Senator Investment Group, Cascade Investment, Baillie Gifford, Viking Global Investors and Allen & Company LLC. Viking Global also led Ginkgo’s Series B round.

Ginkgo currently makes products for the flavor, fragrance and food industries as well as works with DARPA to produce probiotics that will help U.S. soldiers stave off stomach bugs they might pick up overseas but started looking at expanding to other industries last year.

The startup announced in the spring of 2015 it would be buying 100 million base pairs of DNA to help it move into new production areas but has since upped that amount to the 600 million base pairs and will be partnering with Twist Bioscience and Gen9 to supply the synthetic DNA. Twist has pledged to deliver at least 400 of those base pairs of DNA by the end of 2017.

Ginkgo will also be using some of the cash to finish building Bioworks2, a new, 70,000 square-foot automated facility built to test prototypes of Ginkgo’s designer DNA and create those new products in what co-founder Jason Kelly refers to as “verticals tech left behind” such as nutrition and pharma.

MAN KILLED HIS WIFE OVER HER FATHER’S INHERITANCE

Late Fatima Ibrahim had closed from her place of work,  Zubairu Pilot Primary school in Dutsinma town where she teaches Basic Science. Passing through her family home, where she exchanged pleasantries with relatives, she retired home at her residence at the Low-Cost Housing Estate. Little did her family and friends know that they were saying final farewell to her, as her lifeless body was discovered the next day in bed, with blood trickling from her mouth, and bruises on one side of her face.

The deceased, a 32-year-old mother,  was married to  Umar Manu, a staff of the Federal University Dutsinma, Information and Communication Department, who hails from Zaria, Kaduna State and is the prime suspect in the case. The couple have a three-year-old son.

Reports gathered that trouble started for late Fatima when her father, Alhaji Ibrahim Habibu, died in December 2014 and she inherited his wealth. He was until his death a regional manager with a major bank in Sokoto.

According to late Fatima’s uncle and spokesman of the family, Babangida Habibu, since the death of the father, Manu went all-out to get his wife’s share of the inheritance divided among late Alhaji Habibu’s children.

He said: “On our part as family, we resolved to do all possible to protect his property, and committee was set up to share the inheritance appropriately, making sure accounts were opened for each and every one, with each share of money lodged within.”

Late Fatima’s uncle said about seven months back, his niece reported her husband’s changing attitude and the family had to intervene, and invited him along with his parents to iron things out. But, Habibu said, after a while she complained again. “It was at this point that she chose to move out to a new place, where he still visits on the pretence of wanting to see his son,” he said.

Habibu said: “Manu had earlier been threatening Fatima for a while, and even on that fateful day he called to ask her to make available N800,000 for him to settle some debts. Mark you, she had always tried to let him know that the money he assumes she had was not in her custody, but he never wanted to hear that.”

Manu, according to Habibu, visited the deceased at her residence on the day the murder was perpetrated, at about 8:30pm, entering in and out of the compound twice before he finally left after 11:00pm.

“But the next day, Fatima’s maid met her lifeless body on the bed and raised alarm,” he said, adding that Manu was apprehended and handed over to the police where he has owned up, and confessed to the killing, even narrating how he did it.

According to late Fatima’s uncle, the deceased’s family have said all they want now is for the law to take its course.

State Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Usman, who confirmed the arrest of Manu, said investigation has opened up on the matter.

Late Fatima was born in 1984, and bagged a Bachelors Degree in Biology from Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto.

Nigerians Blast Obafemi Martins For Not Paying Respect To His Former Coach, Stephen Keshi

The striker who posted a selfie on his Instagram today with the caption ‘Back to Reality’ once said the late coach didn’t ‘like him’ as he was frozen out of the national team for a major part of the time the Big Boss was with the Super Eagles.

“I don’t think [Keshi] likes me, that’s all. I don’t have any issues with him,” Martins told media.

“I respect him as a coach but I think Keshi doesn’t like me.”

Method to Use Airtel Bis Plan of 3GB For 1k on Android Devices & PC

Airtel 3GB bis plan of N1,500 has been a live time saver for Airtel lovers to surf on their PC, Android and other devices while Airtel 3GB bis plan of N1,000 rendered useless, because lots of people subscribed to it and they were unable used it on their Smartphones/PC, it was limited to Blackberry device only.
I'm glad to inform you that, you can now enjoy this bis plan on your Android device and PC. It is time to save your N500 and use N1000 only to subscribe to 3GB data, instead of using N1,500 to get 3GB, the plan is working better on Android devices, also works for PC and other devices with the aid of tethering.
Unfortunately, it required IMEI tweaking before it can work on your Android device and below are the requirements;
» Blackberry 10 IMEI
» Patience in tweaking the IMEI
» Activation of the 1k Airtel bis plan
Tweaks your Android phone IMEI with the Blackberry 10 IMEI below:
=> 356760051192***
Randomly add any three digits to it.
» Go to this site: www.imei-number.com/imei-validation-check
» Input the above 12 digits, e.g 356760051192
» Add 3 digits to the already known 12 digits making 15 digits e.g 356760051192001 and validate the IMEI
» If the random digit you choose is correct, it will display IMEI number is valid. But if the random digit is incorrect, it will display IMEI number is not valid!
To Activate the Airtel Bis Plan of 1k
» Simply dial *431# to activate 3GB for N1,000
» Check your bundle balance, by dialing *140#

How to Block Your Cell Phone Number From Caller ID

It's free and easy; just choose a temporary or permanent block
While caller ID is a standard way to display incoming phone numbers, you don’t have to let it identify you.
Making your mobile number invisible from caller ID is free and easy.
You have two choices with cell phone blocking: you can do a permanent block or a temporary block on a call-by-call basis.
Temporary blocking only works when you call individuals and businesses. Your phone number can’t be blocked when calling toll-free (i.e. 1-800) and emergency services, due to obvious security reasons.
Moreover, if you own an Android smartphone or an iPhone, you can hide your caller ID from within the software of your device.

Here are the simple and free steps for all four choices.

Call-by-Call Block From Caller ID
Just dial *67 before the phone number on your cell phone. This code is the universal command to deactivate caller ID.
For example, placing a blocked call would look like *67 555 555 5555 (without the spaces). On the receiving end, caller ID will usually display “private number” because it has been blocked.
Though you won’t hear or see a confirmation of a successful caller ID block, it will work.
Permanent Block From Caller ID
Just call your cell phone carrier and ask for a line block. This means your phone number won’t appear when you call any number. This is permanent and irreversible. While customer service may attempt to convince you to reconsider, the choice is yours.
Though the code to call your mobile carrier can vary, 611 typically works for cell phone customer service in the United States and Canada.
If you temporarily want your number to appear when you have a permanent line block in place, you can dial *82 before the number. For example, allowing your number to appear in this case would look like *82 555 555 5555 (without the spaces).
Do be aware, though, that a minority of people automatically decline calls from phones that block caller ID. In that case, you’d have to allow caller ID in order to make the call.

Hide Your Number On An Android Device

Open Dialer.
Press the menu button.
Press Additional settings.
Enter Caller ID setting.
Choose "Hide number" and your number will be hidden.
Choose "Show number" or  "Network default" setting to show it back.

Hide Your Number On An iPhone

Go to Settings.
Enter 'Phone' setting.
Press Show My Caller ID.
Use the toggle switch to show or hide your number.
